Who Needs a Visa?
All foreign visitors (except Indian nationals holding a valid passport/ID) require:
- A valid visa issued *before* arrival
- A confirmed itinerary and permit clearance
- A passport valid for *at least 6 months* beyond entry date
Visa policies are governed by the Bhutan Immigration Authority and can change—confirm at time of booking.
Entry Points into Bhutan
1) Paro International Airport (PBH)
The only international airport in Bhutan and the most common arrival point.
- Regular flights from: Kathmandu (Nepal), New Delhi (India), Kolkata (India), Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore (via Singapore Airlines seasonal), Dhaka (Bangladesh)
- Flight schedules vary seasonally.
- Scenic mountain approach requires calm weather; delays can occur.
2) Overland Borders
Limited official land border crossings allow entry from India.
- Phuentsholing (west border)
- Samtse (southwest border)
- Gelegphu (central border)
- Rongli / Riwo Gaden (eastern border)
- Entry by land normally requires pre-approved permits.
3) Regional Connectivity
Bhutan’s closest international connections are through India and Nepal before arrival by air or road.
Visa & Permit Process
Tourist Visa
Bhutan visas *must be pre-approved* before travel. Your travel operator submits your visa application after deposit.
- Visa approval is issued electronically to immigration.
- Visa is stamped upon arrival.
- Minimum processing time may vary (typically 2–4 weeks).
Travel Permits
In addition to your visa, a permit is required to travel beyond the entry point:
- Inner-Line Permit (for western and central regions)
- Special Area Permits (for eastern and remote regions)
- Guide/driver details are tied to your permit.
Your operator handles these permits as part of your booking.
Proof of Funds & Documents
- Passport (valid 6+ months beyond travel)
- Confirmed trip itinerary and hotel list
- Visa approval paperwork (electronic)

Health & Safety Entry Requirements
Routine Health Requirements
- Normal immunizations recommended (TDAP, MMR, Hep A)
- Carry proof of immunization if needed (yellow card not generally required)
- Altitude can affect sleep, appetite, and hydration—plan accordingly

- Paro Airport has basic wheelchair access on the tarmac and terminal.

- Airport buses and stairs may be used—request assistance ahead of time.
Hotels & Room Accessibility
- Not all Bhutan hotels offer ramps or elevators.
- Luxury and city hotels are more likely to have accessible features.
- Provide your requirements early so we can match suitable properties.
Transportation Accessibility
- Private vehicles can be arranged with lower step access when available.
- Remote roads may be uneven; 4WD support can be requested.
- Guides can assist during transfers and short walks.
Mobility Considerations on Routes
- Most major sights have uneven stone paths and steps.
- Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang) has steep sections—alternative viewpoints can be chosen.
